Oil-absorbing felt is made from polypropylene through spray-melt processing and then further processed. Its key advantage is its exceptionally strong adsorption capacity, enabling it to absorb and store oil when dealing with oil spills at sea. After the oil-absorbing felt has been used to collect oil, the oil can be squeezed out by pressing, allowing the felt to be reused.

As the shipping industry continues to develop, oil spill accidents are inevitable due to certain special circumstances. Such oil spills pose a serious environmental threat to our oceans. To prevent this pollution from becoming even more severe, a number of water-based oil-contaminant treatment products have been developed. Oil-absorbing felt is one of these products, and its oil-removal performance is quite remarkable. However, given its widespread use, some waste is inevitably generated. In order to reduce this waste, we can't help but ask ourselves: Oil-absorbing felt Can it be recycled?

Oil-absorbing felt It is a type of oil-absorbing cotton. Like oil-absorbing cotton, oil-absorbing felt is also made from inert polypropylene fibers woven together using a non-woven fabric process. It features high oil absorption capacity, no loosening, no deformation after oil absorption, and easy retrieval. After extrusion, the oil-absorbing felt can be reused multiple times, is recyclable, and does not cause secondary pollution. Other advantages of oil-absorbing felt include flame retardancy, dust-free properties, and no expiration date.

  Characteristics of oil-absorbing felt:

  1. It has a high oil-absorption capacity—more than ten times its own weight. Generally, light diesel oil absorbs more than 10 times its weight, heavy diesel oil absorbs more than 18 times its weight, and machinery oil absorbs 12 times or more its weight.

  2. Rapid oil absorption. It can absorb oil stains in a short period of time.

  3. It absorbs oil but not water. After absorbing oil, it can float on the surface of water.

  4. Simple and quick to operate.

  5. Reusable.

  Use of oil-absorbing felt:

  1. When using oil-absorbing felt, the operator can either throw it onto the vessel or onto the shore. Place the oil-absorbing felt directly over the oil spill, preferably in areas with the highest concentration of oil. Stir the felt to help it absorb even more oil. Add an appropriate amount of felt to ensure it becomes fully saturated. Once the felt has reached saturation, remove it from the water as soon as possible to prevent it from remaining submerged for too long.

  2. When using oil-absorbing mats, do not use oil dispersants at the same time, as this may reduce the oil-absorbing capacity of the mats.

  3. Based on the oil spill volume, sea conditions, meteorological factors, current speed, and current direction, even if oil-absorbing mats are used and recovered promptly, a small number of mats can still be manually retrieved from the water using boats. When large quantities of mats are deployed, recovery can be facilitated by having operational vessels tow net bags to collect them.

  Post-processing of oil-absorbing felt:

After absorbing oil, the oil-soaked material can be squeezed and reused, and then treated by incineration. The recovered oil-soaked material should be promptly incinerated in an incinerator to prevent secondary pollution.

Features and precautions for using oil-absorbing felt conveyors:

  1. Prevent the rollers from being covered by materials, which could lead to poor rotation; also prevent materials from leaking and getting stuck between the roller and the belt. Pay attention to lubricating the moving parts of the conveyor belt, but do not apply oil to the felt conveyor belt.

  2. Prevent the conveyor belt from starting under load;

  3. If the oil-absorbing felt conveyor belt deviates, corrective measures should be taken promptly.

  4. When the felt conveyor belt is locally damaged, it should be repaired promptly to prevent swelling.

  5. Prevent the oil-absorbing felt conveyor belt from being blocked by frame, support posts, or pad materials, and avoid its breakage.

  6. That Oil-absorbing felt It features high-temperature resistance, cut resistance, excellent flatness, good breathability, and superior toughness. It is suitable for internal mixing equipment operating under both high- and low-temperature conditions.
