Oil-absorbing mats can rapidly absorb liquids—such as oil stains, organic solvents, hydrocarbons, and vegetable oils—that weigh dozens of times their own weight, yet they do not absorb water. They are widely used for cleaning oil slicks on water surfaces and wiping away oil contamination from machinery and equipment. These mats effectively clean and remove large amounts of oil contamination from batteries, boat hulls, sedimentation tanks, and other surfaces; they also recover spilled oil from sea surfaces and prevent the spread of oil spills via tank trucks, oil tanks, oil containers, and drums.

  Uses of oil-absorbing mats:


  1. When using oil-absorbing mats, operators can either scatter them onto the water surface from a boat or from the shore, or deploy them in large quantities using small aircraft. Place the oil-absorbing mats directly on top of the oil spill, preferably in areas with the highest concentration of oil, and gently stir them to help absorb more oil. Add an appropriate amount of oil-absorbing mats until they become fully saturated. Once the mats reach saturation, they should be removed from the water surface as soon as possible to prevent them from remaining submerged for extended periods.


  2. When using oil-absorbing mats, do not use oil dispersants at the same time, as this may reduce the oil-absorbing capacity of the mats.

Based on the oil spill volume, sea conditions and weather, as well as current speed and direction, even if oil-absorbing mats are used and promptly recovered, a small number of these mats can still be manually retrieved by boat. When a large quantity of oil-absorbing mats is deployed, work boats can tow net bags to collect them.


  Oil-absorbing mats are nonwoven fabrics made by spraying and melting polypropylene and then processing it. Their key advantage is their exceptional adsorption capacity, enabling them to absorb and store all oil spills on the sea surface. After the oil-absorbing mats have absorbed oil, they can be recycled by squeezing out the oil, allowing the mats to be reused.


  It is evident that oil-absorbing mats are recyclable, making them more environmentally friendly than other oil-contamination treatment products.


  Oil-absorbing mats are excellent tools for dealing with oil spill pollution, but not all of them are created equal. High-quality oil-absorbing mats have strong oil-absorption capabilities and can be used under harsh conditions without contaminating the environment. On the other hand, low-quality oil-absorbing mats have poor absorption capacity and can actually cause pollution. Therefore, if people want to buy high-quality oil-absorbing mats, they must first understand how to assess their quality. The evaluation methods are as follows:


  1. Is the adsorption capacity high? Is the adsorption rate fast? Once the adsorbent is saturated with oil or chemicals, will oil leak out?


  2. Low selectivity. It exhibits excellent adsorption capacity and adsorption speed for all oils or chemicals, making it a highly effective adsorbent cotton. If an oil-absorbing mat can rapidly and efficiently absorb any type of oil and chemical in large quantities, then it is considered a good oil-absorbing mat. In reality, however, due to limitations in material technology, it’s extremely difficult to achieve this level of performance. Therefore, the lower the selectivity, the better the oil-absorbing mat.


  3. The finer the polypropylene meltblown fibers, the greater their surface area and the stronger their capillary adsorption effect. These fibers are fluffy and soft, with an orderly arrangement. At the same fiber density, degreased cotton becomes fluffier and thicker precisely because its fibers are finer, which accelerates both the intrinsic absorption rate of the fibers themselves and the speed of transfer adsorption, resulting in a higher adsorption multiple. Moreover, during use, these fibers do not shed, thus avoiding any negative impact on adsorption performance and usability.


  4. Is the material highly resilient and has strong tensile strength to ensure that it maintains good integrity during the adsorption process and after reaching saturation, thereby preventing the oil-absorbing mat from cracking, breaking, or splitting and causing further contamination?


  5. No environmental pollution. Good. Oil-absorbing felt It will not cause harm or toxicity to humans and will not pollute the environment. It should be environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and can be incinerated as fuel after use.
